Vernon, NJ Overview

Few townships in the Northeast are able to bill themselves as a “four season recreational community,” which is a modest statement for Vernon.  Most of these premier recreational facilities are located off Route 94 at the Great Gorge Resort.  This four-season playground encompasses an amusement center, the Vernon Valley Ski Area, a golf course, a shopping village, picnic areas, and a health spa among its many attractions.  Vernon also features a portion of Waywayanda State Park and the City of Newark Watershed.  Offering a genuine “vacation lifestyle” in close proximity to bustling urban centers, Vernon is one of the largest and most heavily populated of Sussex County municipalities.  Many of the area’s lakefront communities swell in the summer months with a significant influx of seasonal residents and visitors.  Camping, hiking, skiing, golfing, swimming, tennis clubs, athletic fields, sports leagues, and picnic areas are some of the activities and facilities for leisure hours.

Climate and Weather

The Temperature chart displays average high and low values for January and July, and is designed to provide an indication of both seasonal and daily temperature variability. The Weather Risk Index indicates the calculated risk of each type of weather event occurring in the future. This risk is based on historical localized storm events and weather patterns. The national average for each type of weather event equals a score of 100, so a score of 200 would represent twice the risk as the national average, and a score of 50 would represent half the risk of the national average.
